Saturday Climbing Question
What obstacles do you think people your age may have to overcome which were not in your parent’s generation?
I believe there at least two obstacles that my generation would have that our parents wouldn’t of had such as distractions, due to the increase in technology and massive increase in mass media. For example all the new captivating T.V shows Like LOST, and STARGATE SG1, Face book, Twitter etc. In The 21st century many distractions have arisen that most definitely cause students to deviate from their Work and loose focus on their Academics, like playing Video games (Modern Warfare 2). These are some of the most particular distraction that is an obstacle our parents did not have to face in their lives growing up. Another obstacle that was not present in our parents generation was the ‘competition’, for the most part, if you worked hard enough to get somewhere and persevered you would prevail, where as today, you might reach your goal but after, fighting for it over many other people who want it just as bad as you do, making it harder because of fighting for positions. For example the field of medicine, there are many people considering and entering that field, if you go into that field, most likely everyone else will be battling with you to get that position. Certain fields, not necessarily ‘medicine’ would have been what you would call an Empty field.
I think you made strong points and I agree with them. I believe they’re many more distractions now than there were in our parent’s generation. These distractions really keep us from focusing on our academics and our careers. I also agree that there is a lot more competition now than there was in our parent’s generation. It is becoming very difficult to go into almost any field because of the amount of people who are also trying to get into the field.
